The New Bergen construction site has been buzzing with preparations since spring. Together with all future residents, the official start of construction was celebrated yesterday by laying a unique prism stone.
Area developer SDK Vastgoed (VolkerWessels) is proud of the realisation of the iconic district in the heart of Eindhoven. Those involved, future residents and contractor Stam en de Koning Bouw witnessed the symbolic stone being attached to the facade of the Jaune transformation building on Deken van Somerenstraat. Generous light plays a major role in Nieuw Bergen; the sloping roofs give the sun plenty of room. This is why the foundation stone has a unique glass ‘prism’ in it. “With guts, creativity and distinctiveness, through intensive cooperation with our partners, local residents and municipality, but certainly also through the buyers who have embraced Nieuw Bergen, we are realising a fantastic new piece of Eindhoven.” Thus Ferdinand Gremmen – director SDK Vastgoed.”
New Bergen will be a district for all of Eindhoven. A place that connects and where different generations live, work and meet in a warm and safe atmosphere.
“Eindhoven is growing and will continue to do so in the coming period. We need housing, so Eindhoven needs to keep building. I am therefore very happy that SDK Vastgoed can now start construction of Nieuw Bergen. An iconic project with a green vibe that really adds something to Eindhoven’s skyline. In the heart of our city centre, but at the same time part of a close-knit neighbourhood.” Thus Monique Esselbrugge – Alderman for the Inner City.
After six months of construction, the first contours of the renovation and the future underground car park are already visible. The groundwork has been done, the three cranes are in place and, more importantly, everything is on schedule. Contractor Stam + De Koning Bouw is looking forward to the further construction with great confidence. New Bergen will be fully completed by mid-2026.

Like the colour palette that gives name to its iconic buildings, Nieuw Bergen is highly diverse; the district has flats from the social to the high end. The combination of unusual residential towers, luxury flats and high-quality renovation buildings makes Nieuw Bergen a special and fashionable area.
The design
New Bergen fits right in with Eindhoven’s development as a city with an internationally distinctive character. The characteristic sloping roofs give plenty of room for sunlight. The design comes from the internationally renowned architectural firm MVDRV.
“Eindhoven city centre is a sought-after place to live. So high urban density was necessary, but we wanted buildings with character, not standard residential towers. That was one of the reasons for opting for cut-offs. This was done by taking an imaginary 45-degree plane from the surrounding buildings for each building, so all seven buildings differ in height and shape. The advantage of cut-offs is also the maximum amount of daylight in each flat and at street level, something that is of course particularly attractive to prospective residents,” says Jacob van Rijs – co-founder of MVRDV.
Construction and completion
Sales of the homes are progressing well. Completion is scheduled for mid-2026.
